Back for More
RIT won the Liberty League Swimming & Diving Championship title last year for the first time in program history, winning 10 different events at the conference meet, earning 1698 points to beat out Ithaca for the title.
Every Liberty League champion returns from last season. Sophomore diver Gellert Kish won the 1M and 3M diving competitions at the Liberty League Championship, earning Liberty League Diver of the Year honors. He along with sophomore diver Neko Ferrara competed at the NCAA Diving Regionals. Senior Brendan Kapp won the 200 breaststroke and 100 breaststroke, junior Drew Scheib won the 100 and 200 butterfly, while junior Alex Pecze won the Liberty League title in the 100 backstroke. All three broke at least one school record during last year's conference meet.
Instant Relay
RIT won two relays at the last season's Liberty League Championship. Junior Mike Atanasoff and sophomore Jake Sapp return after joining Scheib and Kapp to win the 200 and 400 medley relays.
Atanasoff finished third in the 50 freestyle at Liberty League's, and finished just off the podium in the 100 butterfly. Sapp beat Atanasoff for third in the 100 butterfly, and placed sixth in the 100 backstroke.
Second(s) Chance
In addition to the 10 first place finishes at last season's conference meet, the Tigers had seven second-place finishes. While some like Pecze and Kapp won other events, others enter the season looking to reach the top.
Ferrara finished behind Kish at the conference meet. He, Kish, and junior Jonathan Parker will anchor the diving team this season.
Senior Aidan Daudier broke the school record in the 400 IM at the Liberty League Championships. He was part of the 800 freestyle relay team that finished second at Liberty League's, placed third in the 200 IM and fourth in the 200 backstroke. Sophomore Ben Sippel finished behind only Kapp in the 200 breaststroke at Liberty League's, and placed third in the 100 breaststroke and sixth in 200 IM.
More Happy Returns
Other returning swimmers include junior Kai Louie, senior distance specialist Theo Heilman, sophomores Samuel Hart and Ben Sippel, and junior Michael Pacholarz.
Louie was on two different second-place relay teams in last season's conference meet, while Pacholarz helped the 800 freestyle relay team to a second place finish at the conference meet, and placed fourth in the 200 freestyle.
Heilman finished fifth in the 500 freestyle and sixth in the 1650 at Liberty League's last season, and recorded the team's top time in the 1000 freestyle last season.
Hart just missed the podium in the 200 breaststroke at Liberty League's, and finished seventh in the 100 breaststroke.
