Kevin Punter tells a story about Zeljko Obradovic he'll never forget - BasketNews.com

Punter singled out Obradovic always telling the players to enjoy their lives and not be all about basketball all the time. The player thinks that this personality trait, above all, separates Zeljko from all other coaches.

Two years ago, Kevin Punter left the EuroLeague and EA7 Emporio Armani Milan to join Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade when the team played in the EuroCup. Looking back at his decision, the guard says he's happy with what he did at the time.

"There were people who criticized me, some said I did it for the money. I imagine that my choice now makes sense in everyone's mind," he told Georgios Zakkas from SDNA. "It wasn't just about the money. Obviously, I came here to do something special and I think we have taken a step in that direction. Of course, the goal was to play in the Euroleague."

"Maybe not everyone saw my vision and what was happening here. They just saw that I signed for Partizan. Personally, I'm happy with this choice," the guard continued. "As you can see, we are in very good shape now. I guess most people would now say it was a smart choice. I feel good and I want to continue what we are doing, get wins, and move forward."

With Zeljko Obradovic being one of the main reasons why he made the transfer from the EuroLeague to the EuroCup two years ago, Punter later revealed a story about the legendary specialist that differentiates him from everyone else in the basketball world.

"He's an extraordinary human being. I feel like a lot of people don't notice that because they're primarily interested in the basketball part. However, what's special is his personality, what kind of person he is every day," Punter shared. "He's amazing. I'd say the best thing about him is his character, he's an extraordinary man."

When he was asked to provide a story that would illustrate his point best, the player revealed what the coach told the squad after a loss in the EuroCup playoffs last year.

"What he told us last year when we were knocked out of the Eurocup is something I've never heard before in my professional career. He always tells us 'Enjoy your life'. You know, not many coaches are interested in your personal life. He not only cares but also wants you to enjoy your life," Punter said. "Life is bigger and more important than basketball. Some [coaches] think it's either basketball or nothing but people have families, they have their lives."

"I haven't seen my mother for almost a year. People don't know that. I haven't seen my little brother in about three years. People don't know that, they don't know what a player goes through. When the coach comes and tells you to enjoy your life and relax, it's important. Obviously, we work very hard, we give it our all. Beyond that, however, he tells us that we should also relax, go out for a meal. He's normal, and I respect that a lot," the player told.
