Pontus Andreasson's Biggest Worry About Red Wings? Speaking English - Detroit Hockey Now

Details of the contract terms agreed to between Swedish scoring sensation Pontus Andreasson and the Detroit Red Wings are beginning to emerge. Even though his deal with the Wings won’t be officially announced until Andreasson’s club Lulea is eliminated from the SHL playoffs or win the championship, Swedish media site Expressen.se is reporting some of the details of the pact.

Accoring to their report, Andreasson has accepted a one-year, two-way deal with the Red Wings. These types of contracts, in which a player is paid one sum at the NHL level and a lower amount in the minor leagues, are commonplace among European free agents.

“It’s nice that it’s out,” Andreasson said of the details of his contract while speaking on the podcast Hockeypuls. “So that there will be no more questions about it. I can focus on Luleå and the playoffs.”

Until this season, Andreasson was languishing in the lower divisions of Swedish hockey. He was working part-time as an electrician in the Volvo plant to help make ends meet.

Andreasson Dominant For Lulea

Joining Lulea and playing his first season in the SHL, it’s all coming together for the 23-year-old forward. Andreasson is leading the SHL playoffs with eight goals in eight games as Lulea is preparing to play in the league final.

“It feels sick,” Andreasson said of his offensive explosion. “It was not something I thought in advance.

“When you do well, and the chance comes, then I want to take it. You do not know if the opportunity arises again.”

In fact, Andreasson is admitting to only one concern when it comes time to be suiting up with the Red Wings – speaking the language. He’s happy to see so many other Swedes on the Detroit roster.

“It’s great that there’s a bit of Gothenburg about Detroit,” Andreasson told Goteburgs-Posten. “I’m so damn bad at english, it will be good to have someone helping out a bit.”

Andreasson Has Fan In Red Wings Andersson

A big admirer of Andreasson’s work is Hakan Andersson. He’s the director of European scouting for the Red Wings and was integral in the signing of Andreasson.

“It feels really good that we have signed a contract with him,” Andersson told VMishockey. “Really nice hockey qualities that appeal to me. Good attitude to his job, good hands, good eyesight and competition-oriented in every detail and in what way he developed; impressive.”
