Sinclair Broadcast Group Inc., SBGI -5.22% one of the largest broadcast television station owners in the country, said it would pull an interview about the alleged origins of the coronavirus pandemic that has caused widespread controversy.

An episode of “America This Week,” which was slated to air over the past weekend, featured an interview with medical researcher Judy Mikovits, who has claimed that Anthony Fauci, the government’s top infectious disease expert, helped manufacture the coronavirus and spread it to China.

Sinclair over the weekend said it would postpone airing the episode, but would do further research before deciding when to run it. On Monday, however, the company said it would pull the segment altogether.

“Upon further review, we have decided not to air the interview with Dr. Mikovits,” a Sinclair spokesman said Monday. “Although the segment did include an expert to dispute Dr. Mikovits, given the nature of the theories she presented we believe it is not appropriate to air the interview.”

Sinclair faced swift backlash after Media Matters, a left-leaning media website, last week reported that the episode of “America This Week,” hosted by Eric Bolling, would feature an interview with Dr. Mikovits.

In the interview, Dr. Mikovits—appearing alongside her lawyer, Larry Klayman—repeated unsubstantiated claims made in the documentary “Plandemic,” which was earlier pulled from platforms including Alphabet Inc.’s YouTube and Facebook Inc.

Mr. Klayman and Mr. Bolling didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment. Dr. Mikovits couldn’t be reached for comment. Elevate, the production company behind the “Plandemic” documentary, didn’t respond to requests for comment.

Mr. Bolling said in a Twitter post this weekend that he “always welcomed all points of view on my show and have consistently stood for free speech,” but said he was “caught off guard by some of Dr. Mikovits’ claims. At no point do I agree with her.”

He added that he has invited Dr. Fauci to appear on his program, and has immense respect for him.
