Ever since Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings took over in 2022 as co-hosts of Jeopardy!, the duo have alternated episodes. But based on some surprising news, it looks like fans may need to wait some time for Mayim's big return to the TV screen.
Back in May, viewers of the hit quiz show learned that The Big Bang Theory actress stepped away from her role to support the ongoing WGA writers strike. At the time, it was announced that Ken would take over hosting for the final week of episodes, which wrapped later that month and led to many voicing their opinion about his status on the show.
Well, with the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, it seems like the Blossom alum is still on the hosting sidelines. According to TVInsider, Jeopardy! went into production without Mayim and began filming new episodes for season 40 on August 15.
While both Mayim and higher ups at Jeopardy! haven't explicitly detailed whether Ken will be the host amid the strikes, he reportedly appeared on set for the first day of filming. Alongside this, the show did announce major changes fans can expect when watching season 40.
Amid the WGA strike, executive producer Michael Davies shared in early August that the series will repurpose old clues and bring back previous season contestants to compete once more.
"I believe, principally, that it would not be fair to have new contestants making their first appearance on the Alex Trebek stage, doing it with non-original material or ... that was written pre-strike," he shared on the Inside Jeopardy! podcast. "We decided that really we needed to invite back and give a second chance in general to players who probably thought that their chance to come back and play on the Alex Trebek stage had gone forever."
As for how this will play out, fans can see the results when season 40 premieres on September 11. As TVInsider further wrote, the first set of episodes will be a Second Chance tournament with season 37 contestants, followed by a Champions Wild Card tournament with season 37 winners against those from season 38.
