Last week Apple released the latest version of its mobile operating system, called iOS 14. But while many iOS 14 users are enjoying customizing their home screens with widgets, players who have diligently kept Fortnite installed on their phones may end up accidentally deleting the game if they update.
According to a tweet from the Fortnite Status Twitter account, which keep players up to date on the technical side of the game, upgrading to the new Apple operating system could result in Fortnite being deleted from your phone. The iOS upgrade will reportedly ask some users if they’d like to “Temporarily Remove Apps to Install the Software Update” and, if they select yes, Fortnite is likely to be deleted.
Fortnite iOS players updating to iOS 14 may lose access to Fortnite. If the message “Temporarily Remove Apps to Install the Software Update?” is accepted, it may result in Fortnite being deleted. Fortnite cannot later be reinstalled due to Apple preventing users from doing so.

This message only appears if you attempt to perform the iOS 14 update without enough space for the download, so if you clear up some space before updating you shouldn’t have to worry about the game being deleted.
Normally, if an App was deleted to make room for an update, players could simply redownload the app. However, due to the ongoing legal battle between Epic and Apple, Fortnite is currently off the App store and cannot be downloaded. With no end to the litigation in sight, Fortnite’s not likely to return to Apple devices in the near future, so players will have to continue being careful to make sure the Fortnite App stays on their phone.
