SBNation Reacts: The WNBA Finals and Memphis is feeling good about the Grizzlies - Grizzly Bear Blues

It’s the end of one season of basketball and the start of another. That has Memphis feeling pretty good - especially about their Grizzlies.

But first, we have a terrific WNBA Finals going on in case you are missing it. And if you don’t believe that, check out the latest SB Nation Reacts showing just how ever fans think this series is.

Candace Parker and the Chicago Sky knocked off Diana Taurasi and the mighty Phoenix Mercury early in their series to make it a tighter contest. Now as the scene shifts to Chicago, it is on the Sky to finish off the Mercury in their home arena. There is no way Chicago wants to face Taurasi, Brittany Griner, and the rest of the uber-talented Phoenix squad in the Mercury’s home building in a possible series-deciding Game 5. If it comes to that, take Phoenix. The Mercury just need one this weekend to get to that point. Can Parker and company handle business at home?

Fans think it’ll be even, so Phoenix in 5 makes sense looking through that lens.

From the Grizzlies perspective, Memphis supporters are feeling mighty confident entering the season that starts next week.

80% of Grizzlies fans feel better about the state of things for Memphis now as opposed to the offseason. And with good reason! Ja Morant has been dominant, and Jaren Jackson Jr. looks ready to make those projecting him to be a Most Improved Player candidate very smart for placing that bet. Beyond those two? Desmond Bane and De’Anthony Melton have made the “who starts?” argument look more like an agreement that both can do the job. Steven Adams has fit seamlessly to this point as an excellent screener, defender, and rebounder while shot attempts have been more evenly distributed around the team with Jonas Valanciunas now a New Orleans Pelicans player. And Kyle Anderson seems poised to make a run at some Sixth Man of the Year buzz - in a contract season, no less!

Even with Dillon Brooks likely missing the first 6 or so games of the season as he recovers from a broken hand, the future of the Memphis Grizzlies has never been brighter. They’re built to be competitive now, and to be contenders for years to come. Could that change? Of course - injuries and regression are both possibilities. But on the eve of a new start of a regular season with star power and potentially elite role players in the fold, Grizzlies fans should be positive about where things are heading.
