NFLPA investigation ongoing about whether Urban Meyer made decisions based on players' vaccination statuses - CBS Sports

Lawyers for the NFLPA are continuing discussions with the league about what information should be available for discovery in their investigation into whether Jaguars coach Urban Meyer made roster decisions based on the vaccination status of players.

Meyer touched off a firestorm this summer when he noted that whether or not a player was vaccinated for COVID-19 was "under consideration" as the team made its roster cuts to get down to the opening week roster. The Jaguars later clarified those remarks, but the NFLPA began an investigation into the matter shortly thereafter, but sources said that process will be very lengthy and could last into 2022 given the sheer number of transactions the Jaguars executed, going from 90 down to 53 players (plus practice squad).

The union takes the matter very serious and is seeking to obtain electronic data and other records that would shine light on what type of communication was ongoing about players and their vaccine status through the preseason. The NFLPA would like access to any text messages or emails exchanged by coaches and front office members within the organization that might pertain to how those roster decisions were made.

At this point the process is still in the early stages, but union sources believe that fines or other sanctions are in order if the Jaguars were clearly releasing players or altering their status based on whether or not they had received the vaccine.

"All you need is for there to be one violation for there to a breach," one NFLPA source said. "It doesn't have to be widespread."
