Evers in WXPR Interview: Too Many People Remain Uninformed About Virus - WXPR

When he ran for governor in 2018, Tony Evers never could have anticipated what would confront him.

Just 14 months into his first term, he was left dealing with a historic pandemic that has now killed more than 7,600 people in the state.

We interviewed Evers about his pandemic management so far and about what’s to come.

He said he believes too many people have spent too little time thinking about and learning about the issue.

“I think one of the things that has been surprising to many of us is that there’s a good hunk of people in the state of Wisconsin and in our country that, frankly, still don’t know much around the virus. They’re not watching TV around this issue every night. They’re working and feeding their family and things like that. There’s a lot of people that just haven’t thought about it a lot, even to this day,” Evers said.

Even so, he believes his background has helped him make the right decisions during the last 18 months of the pandemic.

“I was a science teacher. I have a science background. My degrees are in science. It’s not that I know everything, but I know the scientific method and how important it is to trust that,” he said.
